Since Mitch left things have definitely slowed down here for
us a bit.
I attended my last Bahasa class the week Mitch left. What a long 15 classes that was! I only missed one class, so I think I did
pretty well. I was all excited at the
beginning to be there and learning the language and I guess getting out of the
house, but once we got more settled and the novelty wore off it was hard to
go. Still learned some stuff, but it’s
been forever since I had to sit and take a class like that, and still not a
fan…After class we all went out with the teacher to an extremely local outdoor
market for lunch. Not having the palette
for spicy food I stuck with a safe choice, chicken rice. It’s a big Malaysian dish. Some of the girls grabbed a plate of I have
no idea what it was, just looked like different colors everywhere on the
plate. My chicken rice was good and cost
like $1.25, super cheap. After lunch the
teacher showed us around the market and the produce and meats and such, then we
took off. It was a nice way to end it.
I tried out some crazy diet with a friend for a week, whoa
did that suck! It’s called the GM diet
and it’s a week of restricted diet, light exercise, and lots of water. Day 1, fruit only (no bananas). Day 2, veggies only and start the day with a
baked potato with a little butter. Day
3, fruits and veggies, still no bananas.
Day 4, was bananas and milk, so you could make a banana milkshake and
then veggie soup for dinner. Day 5, beef
and tomatoes…weird, I know. Day 6, beef
and veggies. Day 7, finally, brown rice
with fruits and veggies. Holy crap, it
was hard. I cheated a little bit each
day except the first… :/ I cut out soda and alcohol and just drank water the
whole time. I ended up losing 5 ½ lbs.!!
I have put most of it back on, but good to know if I ever need to lose a quick
5 lbs. for some special occasion, I can.
That’s pretty much what I learned from that experience, that and it
sucks hanging out and watching people drink when you aren’t. This is what I missed out on during one night out, some fun drinks and some not so fun ones...kinda ok with the fact I wasn't involved in this!
Actually did something outdoorsy a couple weeks ago. We hopped in the car with Dave and Leah and
headed to Templer’s Park. They were
supposed to have a little waterfall and a hike we could see. We got there, and it’s a very local hot spot
to cool off. I think we were the only
white people there and we got a lot of stares.
After climbing a bunch of stairs for the first part of the hike you get
to the base of the waterfall and there’s a huge ‘pool’ at the base where
everyone was swimming and enjoying to water.
We decided to keep hiking up because we figured the higher we went the
less people there would be in the water and we could enjoy ourselves. We could see the waterfall was pretty big and
kept going up, so we did too. The stairs
ended and time to hike for real. We
stopped in one pool so Eric could take a dive in and stand under the waterfall
in that pool. This was of course after
he almost fell down the previous waterfall being stupid and walking out to the
edge and slipping. He almost lost his
wedding ring too! That would have made for one unhappy Mrs. Kjol…he said his
ring came off and was just sitting on a rock with the water going over it. That was a close call, and Eric scared the crap
out of me when I saw him slip I didn’t see him right away and was freaked out
that he went over. Enough of that
business, we kept going up. Hiked up
past a few more pools and then we found a nice one and stopped because the rest of
the climb up looked out of our league, and Dave and Eric were in flip flops. The
water was freezing cold. We had to walk
across rocks under the waterfall to get to the little pool on the other side. That was a little scary as well, but we all made it without
incident, whew! Got to sit under the
waterfall too and took some nice pics J
Well, it’s summer here and you can definitely tell because
everyone is leaving L Most of the ladies I know here are all gone
or getting ready to leave. It’ll be me
and Leah for the next 5-6 weeks I think.
I honestly think everyone else I know will be gone. My PIC, Chantal left a week ago and I do miss
her.
This past Tuesday I went with Cynthia and Leah to have some
cellulite treatment done that we got for free.
OMG, it hurt like a b^*%#! Step one was an ultrasound machine that they
put the cold jelly on and rubbed it in for like 10 minutes, this step isn’t the
painful one. Step 2 sucked. It involved some machine that had a round end
with suction cups on it and extreme pressure on the skin and pulling up and I
could hear my skin popping under the suction cups. It hurt so bad, I couldn’t
wait for her to stop, that step was 20 minutes.
Last step was a cold wrap they put on and wrapped you in cellophane then
you waited 30 minutes, then they clean you up and you’re done. I was sore for like 2 days after this
treatment, pain! Leah and Cynthia felt
the exact same. Never again!
This past Friday night we went out and helped Cynthia celebrate
her birthday. Tried to start off at a
bar on the 57th floor of tower 3 at KLCC, I say tried because Eric
couldn’t get in because he was wearing shorts and flip flops, whoops, didn’t
realize there was a dress code. Went to
another bar around the corner and had a great time. On our way to dinner at some Italian place,
someone mentions going to Singapore, oh haha we can’t go it’s too expensive,
next the casino is brought up, and then next thing you know we are all deciding
to go to the Genting Highlands to the casino there. None of us had been, it was us, Cynthia and
Jesse, and Dave and Leah. That was one
deciding factor, the other was the cab we were in said he would take us, wait
there for us and then drive us back for a whopping 300 Ringgit. SOLD!
That’s roughly $30 a couple for this guy to drive us the 1 hour there,
wait like 4 hours for us and then drive the hour back. Helluva good deal! We
stopped by the house so Eric could change, I could walk the girls, and grab
refreshments. Woohoo, road trip! We got there and the as soon as I opened the
cab door I was assaulted with cool air, what’s this?? I forgot how amazing cool
air feels, it was awesome. The casino
was a lot of fun and we only ended up losing maybe a $100, so not bad. We would have spent more than that had we
done dinner and the bars. Speaking of dinner, since we kind
of skipped it, we were starving. We had the cabbie drop us at the McDonald's
down the street from our place where we all proceeded to chow down on some
Mickey D’s. We got home finally around
4:30am, what a night, what an adventure!
Eric got to take a little trip to South Korea for a meeting
last week. He had to fly at midnight for
7 hours, arrive in Seoul and take a taxi to another airport and then hopped on
an hour flight to some other little town and went straight into the
office. Had lunch, and spilled soup on
his brand new custom made shirt, luckily it came out. Next, was his 2 hour meeting and then
catching a flight back to Seoul once he finished for the night. Was able to enjoy a nice Korean BBQ and hit
up a few bars then back to the hotel.
Left for the airport and noon and arrived back in KL at like 10pm. He was gone for about 48 hours for a 2 hour
meeting! Crazy.
While Eric was away I had a couple old colleagues come into
town for 2 nights, so I met up with them for a couple drinks and dinner. It was really good to see them, it had been a
while, always nice to see a friendly face from back home over here. After I
left them I met up with Dave and Leah at a bar, they were nice enough to invite
me out since they knew Eric was gone.
Partied with them for a couple hours, and then home to my girls. The night Eric got back from Korea was the expat
mingle, this one was close to home this time, like a 5 min taxi ride away. Went with Dave and Leah and met some other
people we knew there. It was a nice
night J
Side note, Eric’s suit came in this week and I think it
looks great on him!! It's a blue pin stripe, and he had a pink and blue shirt made to match. Take a peek..
Sunday, we had a lovely BBQ over by the pool at Dave and Leah’s. The week leading up to this BBQ Eric and Dave made the game bags or cornhole for us to play. It’s similar to washers, you have a board with one hole and you toss bean bags at the board, object is to reach 21 first. They went to a hardware store and had to cut their own wood with a hand saw. Next, actually build the boards, screws, the sides, everything. Then they painted them brilliant white and stuck a sticker of the American flag on one board and a Canadian flag on the other board (the US flag is slightly higher in position than the Canadian flag, naturally J ). The first ever game on the board was won by team USA, always and forever the red, white and blue! So, we had this game going on, good friends, good food and just hanging out enjoying the day and the company. We had a great time!
