Tuesday, July 30th, at 35 weeks pregnant we had a little scare. I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, as a pregnant woman does, and discovered a lot of blood. That is a scary sight at 3:00 in the morning, or at any time really. The doctor had said if there was any bleeding that we should go to the hospital, I had been diagnosed with placenta previa previously. We hadn't even packed a bag yet for the hospital (I am the worst procrastinator), I had just packed the babies bag the day before, not mine. So we hurriedly packed a few things and headed out. We didn't know what to expect, are the babies ok, could we be having the babies today?? Luckily it was at 3:00 in the morning and not 8:00, it would have taken a lot longer to get there with traffic. We arrived and checked in to the ER and were sent upstairs to get everything checked out in the labor ward. They found the heartbeats and everything was fine. We had to be monitored for a bit, but they said there was a chance we would be delivering the babies that day or I would be put on bed rest (in the hospital or at home) or everything was fine and I could continue as normal. Eric left to go pack my hospital bag just in case the babies were coming. There were a lot of emotions that day. I was worried about the C-section if the babies were coming, worried something would go wrong, worried about the babies being ok if they were delivered at 35 weeks, I had just recently had my steroid shot to help the babies develop just in case they did come early though. We had to spend the day and next night in the hospital for observation. I bled most of the day, but it slowed way down as the day went on, thankfully. My doctor came to see us and said everything checked out and as long as the bleeding stopped or was barely there we could go home in the morning. I was checked and babies were monitored throughout the day, I was given an ultrasound a little later and everything was normal. In the early morning I was checked as I had been all night long, only this time when they monitored the babies Austin was being difficult. When they check the heartbeats they are supposed to monitor for a straight 30 minutes. Doing this is very uncomfortable as I have to lie on my back with my massive belly on top pushing down on everything else inside! Little Austin, who had been the best baby so far, not really kicking me or causing discomfort like his sister did, decided to play hide and seek with the heart monitor. I spend an hour and a half on my back while they kept finding and losing his heartbeat as he moved around, finally they were able to track it for a bit and I could sit up again, ahhh, relief!! Dr. Paul came in after that and said I could go home, happy day!! Just needed to take it a little easy, but no bed rest either, woohoo!! I got home took a much needed hot shower and took it easy. While we were in the hospital not knowing if I would be delivering, I had commented that it was really fortunate I had taken my maternity pics that weekend, came close to missing out on that! Here's a couple shots of those :) (taken by a wonderful photographer, www.bluecicadaphotography.com )
Two weeks later we were headed back to the hospital for my scheduled C-section. I had to have a C-section because of the placenta previa, it was a lot safer for everyone involved, if I was to deliver naturally there would be a high chance of a hemorrhage. We had scheduled the delivery for the morning of Monday, August 12, 2013. Eric and I had a nice weekend before that, we went out to a nice dinner that Saturday night and then went to church and out to lunch with friends on Sunday at 37 weeks pregnant with twins :)
Back to August 12th. We arrived at the hospital, Prince Court Medical Center in Kuala Lumpur, about 6:00am. Checked in and headed up to our room. I think everything was scheduled for 8 or 8:30 and we had to get there a couple hours early to get checked in and set up. We upgraded our room to the junior suite so we could have a little more space and Eric could have a little room with a sleeper chair in it. They took us down to the pre-op room to hang out for a few minutes, I was in my gown and laying in the bed starting to get nervous, I mean they were about to cut me open and pull out two babies...talk about a day! Luckily, Eric could be with me, but then they took me into the operating room and Eric couldn't come in while they were doing epidural and getting ready. He had to put on his scrubs and wait about 15 minutes or so before he could come in. I was doing ok until the epidural kicked in, I have a little bit of claustrophobia...not so much in small spaces, but in the fact that I don't like being confined and unable to move. So, Times Square at New Years probably won't ever happen for me. I was starting to freak out that I couldn't move my lower half of my body and I had one arm down that had the IV in it and one arm 'free'. And then they put the oxygen mask over my face and I really started hyperventilating. Eric still wasn't in the room yet, but I think they had started on cutting me open already. The nurses were desperately trying to get me to calm down. They said if I didn't calm down then they would have to put me under and Eric would not be able to come in. They took the oxygen mask off me for a minute to help, but said I had to wear it until the babies were out and then they could take it off. Finally, Eric came in and I began to calm down. I normally have low blood pressure, and he said it was through the roof as well as my pulse when he came in and saw it on the machine. When he came in it happened so quick after that, they had already started on me before he came in, then a couple minutes later at 8:50 am Hailey was brought into the world.
Three minutes later my little man Austin was delivered.
In three minutes my life changed forever and we became a family.
Everything went quick right after that, they took the babies to get cleaned up, Eric left to go follow the babies and I was left to get closed up and then taken to our room.

We spent 8 days in the hospital because Austin lost weight (as most newborns do), but it was an issue since he started at 4 pounds already. We had to wait for him to get back up to 4 pounds before we could leave. Luckily, we were able to stay in the hospital with him and wait, we could have taken Hailey home a couple days before Austin but we couldn't do that, so we stayed. Hailey had an issue of her own, she was just barely jaundice and had to spend 24 hours under the photo light. That time went by so fast looking back, but while we were in it and waiting to get the ok to go home it went so slow. We had visitors everyday I think which helped the time go by. We were even graced with a brand new visitor. Some friends of ours were pregnant as well, and two weeks ahead of me (so she was due in one week) had come to visit us in the hospital the morning the twins were born. While there she started feeling contractions and was then in labor all day at home until her water broke and then she came back to the hospital and had her baby that night. So very cool to have friends in the hospital at the same time and have our babies share a birthday. The second night in the hospital for all of us the guys went down to the Coffee Bean to share a glass of Whisky to toast all the babies! The hospital was great. Nursing staff and doctors, they made the stay very nice and were a huge help! Dr. Paul did an amazing job with the c-section and delivery (I barely have a scar and it's only about 4 inches long) and Dr. Padma is an awesome peds doctor! We felt so very well taken care of. I will say, the menu selection could use some work at the hospital though. I had Eric pop down to the Coffee Bean in the hospital a few times to get me something nice to eat and we were able to order out a couple times too :)
Finally We got to leave the hospital on August 20th!!!
(Going home outfits, Polo, only the best)
(Check out Eric's 'playoff' beard he grew until Austin got out of the hospital)
We got newborn photos taken when the babies were two weeks old, here's a few taken by the same photographer that did our maternity pics...
